Why do bolt-on fender flares look so damn good on 80's cars? It doesn't make sense that cheap fiberglass or ABS flares would look better than factory sheetmetal. But they do.

Maybe because 80's cars are really plain on the side so flares really stand out, or because widebody is just simply cool.

it's the wide rims. put stock rims on the cars pictured, and then overly flared fenders just look silly.

Hmm, didn't think a whole lot about this aspect. Even stock wheels with spacers can look pretty good too.

If you were to do that, I think the flares would have to be wider and have wheels to fill them up.
